Hari Kunzru Biography

Hari Kunzru is a British writer of Indian origin. His ethnicity is Kashmiri. As a writer he excelled in writing novels and he is also a successful journalist, born and brought up in London. He is the author of internationally acclaimed novels - The Impressionist, Transmission, My Revolutions and Gods without Men. One of the leading writers of international fame, his works have been translated to twenty different languages across the globe. He was awarded John Llewellyn Rhys prize for writers under 35, but he turned it down. He is married to Katie Kitamura, an American novelist, journalist and art critic who is currently an Honorary Research Fellow at the London Consortium.

 

Kunzru was born in London to a Kashmiri Pandit in the year 1969. His mother is a British Christian. He completed MA in Philosophy and Literature from University of Warwick. He doesn’t believe in any form of god. Since young he has been fascinated with UFOs. He worked as a travel journalist for many dailies during the period, 1995 to 1997. As a journalist he worked with The Guardian, Time Out and The Daily Telegraph. Since 1999, he served as the music editor of Wallpaper* magazine for 5 years. Since then he has been associated with different forms of media.

 

The Impressionist (2003) was his first novel which received critics’ appreciation and was an international bestseller. His second novel, Transmission, was published the following year. Since then he regularly published his works and got active into writing. Noise – an anthology of short stories was published in 2005. His third novel, My Revolutions, was published in 2007 and the fourth one, Gods Without Men in 2011. He currently serves as the Deputy President of English PEN.
