Geeta Vadhera Biography

Geeta Vadhera is a contemporary artist from Gurgaon, New Delhi. Till now she has conducted 35 exhibitions across all the metro cities of India, apart from Paris, Tours, Bonn, Nice, Canberra, Singapore etc. Her "Jogia Dhoop" series exhibited first in 2003 received a lot of praises. It was a list of calligraphic paintings based on the writings of the Sufi saints—Rumi, Bulleh Shah, Kabir, Shah Niaz, and Shah Taaji. The painting "Main Vich Main" was featured in the same series. "Shah Shabad" is her new series based on the works of Bulleh Shah, widely regarded as the King among Sufi poets of undivided India. As of now she has spent more than two decades in painting.

 

Geeta Vadhera hails from New Delhi. After completing her studies at College of Art, Delhi she began her professional career. She initially worked with the government owned Cottage Industries with some commercial assignments. She got a project from a London-based design house, and also started working for her mentor Narendra Srivastava. Then she left commercial design field to pursue an independent career of her own as a painter. Her first exhibition, "Ansh" was held at AIFACS, New Delhi, and after that she conducted 35 exhibitions.

 

She has been a Fellow, Royal Society of Arts, London. Spending two decades in the field of art, she has painted on canvas, on paper, on photographs, on wood, on glass, and even on a body. Apart from working on solo exhibitions in different Indian cities, she has also worked with several people in the course of her career. She currently runs her own art gallery - Studio Geeta Vadhera - in Noida, a suburb of New Delhi.
