Ganesh Joshi Biography

Ganesh Joshi is an Indian politician from Uttarakhand belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. He has been elected to Uttarakhand state assembly thrice. Currently he serves as the member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from the Mussoorie constituency in Dehradun district. He is originally from Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand, but born in Meerut. While serving as an MLA in 2016, he allegedly kicked and beat a 14-year old police horse named Shaktiman. It led to a lot of controversies leading to national wide protests and he was arrested. Later the horse died. The horse’s hint leg was completely shattered by his trash, it never recovered and succumbed to injuries.

 

Ganesh Joshi was born in Meerut City in 1958. His father was a member of Indian army and was posted in Meerut when Ganesh was born. The family originally belongs to Pithoragarh district in present day Uttarakhand. His father’s name is Shyam Dutt Joshi. Ganesh has four siblings and he was second among 5 children. His childhood was spent in Meerut, Haridwar and Dehradun. Following his father’s legacy, Ganesh too served in Indian army, prior to his entry in state politics.

 

He was associated with Indian military force during 1976 - 1983. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party as a member in 1984, and since then he is fully associated with the party. He served as the Secretary of Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha, Dehradun City in the second half of 1980s and became its Vice President in 1989. He was elected as President of Yuva Morcha in 1994, and after that he has served different party positions, till got elected to state legislative assembly in 2017. When his name was announced as a BJP candidate for 2017 elections, Congress party slammed this decision.
