Ganesh Hukkeri Biography

Ganesh Hukkeri is an Indian politician belonging to Indian National Congress. He hails from Karnataka and currently serving as a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Chikkodi constituency. He is the son of senior Congress politician Prakash Babanna Hukkeri, who is a member of the 16th Lok Sabha and represents the Chikkodi, his home constituency. He has also served as MLA of Karnataka multiple times and minister of Small scale Industries, Sugar and Endowments.

Ganesh Hukkeri was born on 24 July 1978 in Chikkodi, Karnataka into a politically influential family. Born as the son of politician and parliamentarian Prakash Babanna Hukkeri, Ganesh too joined the field of politics at a young age. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Bharatesh College of Business Administration, Belgavi. Though he is an MBA graduate, he wanted to become a social worker, just like his father. Since school days he was interested in politics and has campaigned for his father right from the childhood. He has also accompanied his father during the previous five Assembly election and two Lok Sabha polls since 1994 as a school kid.

After his father won Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Ganesh’s name was recommended by Congress politicians to contest state assembly polls. He has previously served some noted positions within state politics. He defeated sitting MLA Shashikala Annasaheb Jolle in the state assembly elections held in 2014 and reached state assembly as an elected MLA for the first time. He got re-elected to state assembly for the second time in May 2018. He served as Parliamentary secretary to Revenue Department of Karnataka till May 2018, and has also held positions such as Chief Whip of Government of Karnataka.
