Dolly Thakore Biography 
Dolly Thakore is a veteran Indian theatre actress and casting director who is familiar to Doordarshan audience of 1980s as a star anchor, host and news reader. One of the most familiar faces of Doordarshan in the 1980s, she was the person to announce Indira Gandhi's historic defeat in 1977 election and Janata Party's win on Doordarshan news, the only television channel available then. Associated with Doordarshan Delhi for several years, she has also hosted many shows and interviewed several Bollywood stars like Hema Malini for Doordarshan audience then. This anchor is known for her distinct smiling face. Dolly has been a casting director for academy winning English film – Gandhi.
Dolly Thakore was born March 10, 1943. She got training in television and radio programs from the prestigious BBC, London. Once she returned to India she became the top newscasters and television host mostly associated with television channels. Through her shows she interviewed many VIPs both Indian and foreigners and belonging to different profiles and professions. She shot to fame after becoming the prime newsreader at 8 pm for Mumbai Doordarshan. She read English news. She began her film journey as a casting director and unit publicist in 1982 biographical film – Gandhi.
She acted in a few movies, including Bollywood film based on Bollywood life style – Page 3. She is also a theatre artist and has worked with several celebrated playwrights and directors. As a stage actress, she has appeared for Tennessee Williams' Streetcar Named Desire, Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party, and Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. She regularly writes reviews of movies and plays. Dolly was married to noted theater artist, Alyque Padamsee and now is separated. Their son, Quasar Padamsee is also a theatre artist.
