D. Y. Patil Biography

D. Y. Patil is a well-known educationalist & philantropist of the country, who founded more than a dozen of educational institutions in his name. There is one medical college in his name, D. Y. Patil Medical College at Kolhapur, and one hospital named D Y Patil Hospital at Nerul. For his contributions towards the field ofeducation and social work, government of India honoured him with Padma Shri award in 1991. Patil is also a politician, former MLA and has served as state governor of two different Indian states. He served as Governor of Tripura during 27 November 2009 – 21 March 2013, and was then shifted to Bihar, where he completed his term of 5 years in 26 November 2014.

 

Dnyandeo Yashwantrao Patil was born on 22 October 1935. He hails from Kolhapur of Maharashtra. He is married to Shantadevi. He was born in a small village of Ambap. But he dreamt  of  spreading  education  and  healthcare  to  the  masses  of  India. A well-known philanthropist of the country, Patil has founded a number of educational institutes in Maharashtra. It includes the D.Y Patil College of Engineering and Technology at Kolhapur and D.Y Patil College of Engineering in Pune in 1984, and many more. His son Satej is also a politician associated with regional politics, and has served as home minister of Maharashtra.

 

Through his noble work and realized dreams, his contributions to the field of health care and education are immensely huge. His vision is to make education and health care available to all, especially to the poor and needy. Patil was the fourth person from Maharashtra to occupy Rajbhawan in Patna, Tripura when he assumed the power of state governor.
