Bakul Tripathi Biography

Bakul Tripathi was an Indian writer belonging to Gujarati literature, who authored several thousands of humour essays in a writing career spanning over 4 decades. He was a recipient of Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak (1988) and many more honours. He served as the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad, and wrote humour columns for many years and decades in Gujarat Samachar. He has achieved a feat of longest run regular column in any newspaper across India. he lived during the period, 1928-2006.

 

Bakul Tripathi was born on 27 November 1928 in Nadiad, Gujarat. His full name is Bakul Padmamanishankar Tripathi. He completed his master’s and law studies in the mid-1950s. Soon after completing his PG in 1953 he got into teaching profession. He taught commerce at H L College of Commerce in Ahmedabad from 1953 till his retirement. He was active in his writing career as a journalist as well. His columns - Thoth Nishaliyo and Kakko ne Barakhadi for Gujarati daily, Gujarat Samachar hold the record of longest run regular column in any daily across India. He also served as an editor.

 

As a writer he is best known for his non-fiction works as an essayist, and most of them had the shades of humour. Sacharacharma (1955) was his first collection of essays. It was followed by Somvarni Savare (1966), Vaikunth Nathi Javu (1983), Dranacharyanu Sinhasan (1985), Govinde Mandi Gothdi (1987) etc. Kumar Chandrak in 1951 and Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 1988 were the major honours received by him. In 2006 Gujarati literature lost a series of literary giants like Ajit Seth, Shantilal Shah, Chandrakanth Bakshi, Ramesh parekh, Bakul Tripathi, Maniraj Barot, Keka Shastri, Ramanlal Joshi, Ramanlal Soni, Gulabdas Broker etc, and the void is never going to be filled.
