Baby Rani Maurya Biography

Baby Rani Maurya is an Indian politician, who currently serves as the governor of Uttarakhand since 26 August 2018. She is the 7^th governor of the state, and the second woman to be the governor of Uttarakhand after Margaret Alva. Member of the National Commission for Women during 2002–2005 and Mayor of Agra during 1995–2000 are other major posts held by her. She is affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2007 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, she unsuccessfully contested from Etmadpur seat representing BJP.

Baby Rani Maurya was born on the independence day of year 1956. She completed Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts, before she became active in politics in the 1990s. She got married to a bank officer, Pradeep Kumar Maurya and her entry to politics happened only after that. Her husband retired as Director of Punjab National Bank, and currently serves as a member on the advisory board.

Joined politics after marriage in the early 1990s, she successfully contested 1995 Mayor Elections from Agra, Uttar Pradesh. After that she turned fully active in political career and served as a powerful administrator too. She was the first woman to be mayor of Agra, and completed a term of 5 years as well. She was also appointed an office bearer of the scheduled caste wing of the BJP in 1997. Since then she actively participated in social work and worked towards women empowerment too.

She became a member of the Uttar Pradesh social welfare board in 2001 and was appointed as a member of the National Commission for Women the following year. She is known for her efforts towards the uplift of dalit women in the society.
