Babulal Gaur Biography

Babulal Gaur is an Indian politician from UP, associated with BJP. A senior politician of the party he has been elected to the state assembly for 10 times. He served as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh (2004-2005). He currently serves as Cabinet Minister - Home and Jail, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh. Babulal Gaur was first elected to Vidhan Sabha in a by-election in Bhopal South constituency in year 1974. He contested as an independent candidate supported by Janata Party.

 

Urban Administration & Development, Local Administration, Law and Legislative Affairs, Parliamentary Affairs, Public Relations, Urban Welfare, Housing (Urban) & Rehabilitation and Bhopal Gas Relief and Rehabilitation are the major portfolios he held as a cabinet minister over the years. A leader of controversies on 21st April, 2016 the 85-year old minister was caught on camera inappropriately touching a woman during an event in Bhopal giving rise to controversies.

 

He was born in the year 1930 in Naugir village, Pratapgarh District, Uttar Pradesh. He is associated with Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh since 1946. He holds a BA and an LLB degree. He got associated with state politics since early 1970s. Got elected to state assembly for the first time from Bhopal in 1974 as an independent candidate he is fully active in the political scene. Serving different portfolios as a minister over the years he also served as the Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha (2002-2003).

 

He won 7 consecutive elections from Govindpura constituency since 1977. He has also given a significant work as a social leader for which he has been awarded several times. He is the former Vice-President of State Bharatiya Janata Party. Yet this leader is known for inviting controversies for the statements he made. His comments like ‘Drinking is a social status symbol these days’, ‘Rape is social crime. Sometimes it's right, sometimes it's wrong’ and ‘Women in Tamil Nadu wear full clothes and hence the crime rate is lower there as compared to other states’ have brought him to news for wrong reasons. He was also accused of sexual misdemeanour by two Bhopal men when he was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh in 2005.
