B. Sriramulu Biography

B. Sriramulu is an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka who currently serves as a member of Karnataka legislative assembly. He currently represents Molakalmuru Constituency in chitradurga district as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. He founded Badavara Shramikara Raitara Congress in 2011 and stood as its leader during 2011-2014. Before switching to the regional party, he served as Minister of Health and Family Welfare in Karnataka Government till 2011. In 2018 he came to spotlight after he demanded a separate state for North Karnataka due to alleged "injustice" in that part of the state.

B. Sriramulu was born in Bellary, Karnataka on 8 August 1971. His father B. Thimmappa was a railway employee and B Honnuramma, a homemaker. He had 7 siblings and was born as the 7th child to his parents. He got into active politics in the 1990s, associated with Bharatiya Janata Party. During 1999 Lok Sabha elections he campaigned for national level BJP leader Sushma Swaraj. He also contested from Bellary for Lok Sabha elections, but couldn’t succeed. Yet it provided him enough hype and popularity to rule the roost later.

He remained a close associative of BJP till 2011. Because of humiliations within the party, he quit BJP and contested as an Independent candidate from his favourite Bellary Rural constituency which he won. He founded Badavara Shramikara Raitara Congress in 2011 and won 4 out of the 150 seats it had contested in 2013 state assembly elections. The party also secured about 2.7 % of the total votes cast. However, prior to the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, the party's founding leader rejoined the BJP. Thus the party was dissolved.
