B. K. S. Varma Biography 
B. K. S. Varma is an artist and painter from Bangalore. His works predominantly deal with the subjects - environment and social issues. His depiction of Hindu Gods in his own style has also made him a world-class artist. He also paints in front of audience, when he is given a theme of poetry or dance. His son B. S. Pradeep Varma is a critically acclaimed filmmaker of Kannada film industry, whose 2017 movie, Urvi got nominated at five prestigious International film festivals.
Varma hails from Bangalore, Karnataka. He was born in the outskirts of the city in the year 1949. His hometown Karnur belongs to Attibele Taluk of Bangalore. His mother was an artist, and his father was a musician. At the age of 6, he started sketching. During his younger days, it was only his hobby and later it turned to be his biggest passion to pursue in life. He is married to Shantha Varma and the couple has three children.
With the early 1960s Varma seriously decided to take lessons in this art, and received trained for painting and sculpture from A.N Subbarao at Kalamandir, Bangalore. He also took training from A.C.H. Acharya, a sculptor from Devenahalli. He joined Kalamandir School of art in 1964 and studied for three years. During his academic years, he got opportunity to visit places across India, and visit famous artists belonging to his field.
In 1967, after his studies, he joined film industry as an associate art director for the Bollywood movie “Aadmi” starring Dilip Kumar. He also served as an artist for a number of journals and newspapers. In the late 1970s, he worked as an art director in Kannada movies. In the 1980s, he started exhibiting his paintings. In the year 2010, he published his biography.
