Aryadan Muhammed Biography

Aryadan Muhammed is a veteran Congress party member. He is a politician from Kerala and the present Minister for Electricity and Transport in the Oommen Chandy Ministry, Kerala. He is the MLA of Nilambur constituency who won in the 2011 State Election. He has been consecutively elected from Nilambur constituency in 1977, 1980, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011 Assembly elections. Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee from 1998 to 2001, Chairman of Public Undertakings Committee from 2001 to 2004, President of State Marketing Federation and the Director of NCDC and NAFED are other noted positions held by Aryadan.

Aryadan Muhammed was born on 15 May 1935 in Nilambur as the son of Unneen and Kadiyamunni. He entered Indian National congress as a member in the year 1952. During 1950’s, he was an active member of the Indian National Trade Union Congress. He has worked aside several labour unions and has reached the position of President as well. He remained member of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee since 1958. Secretary of Kozhikode DCC, President of Malappuram DCC and as General Secretary, KPCC are the next noted psoutions held by Aryadan. He was elected to KLA for the first time in the year 1977 where he defeated Saidalikutty of CPI (M) by more than 7000 votes. Till then, he has been representing congress in Assembly elections (6 times) till now.

In 1980, he became Minister for Labour and Forests in the Ministry headed by Shri. E.K.Nayanar. He held the position from January 1980 to October 1981. He was the Minister for Labour and Tourism in the Ministry headed by A. K. Antony during the period 1995-1996. He has been holding the portfolio of Electricity since 2004 and at present serves as the Minister for Power and Transport in the Oommen Chandy Ministry.
