Amit Deshmukh Biography

Amit Deshmukh is a young politician from Maharashtra belonging to Indian National Congress. He is  the eldest son of Late Vilasrao Deshmukh, prominent congress leader and former chief minister of  Maharashtra. Noted Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh is his younger brother and actress Genelia D’Souza is his sister-in-law. His second brother Dheeraj Deshmukh is a businessman. Amit, the eldest is the only politician among the three siblings. Amit got elected to state assembly for the first time in 2009 when he defeated Kayyum Khan Mohammad Khan Pathan of Bahujan Samaj Party & Shripad Kulkarni of  Shivsena, by a big margin. In 2014, he got elected for his consecutive second term in the state assembly elections. He is the President of Latur Club and associated with its cultural activities right now. 

He was born in Latur, Maharashtra in 1976 to prominent congress politician, Vilasrao Deshmukh. He completed Chemical Engineering from Thadomal Shahani Engineering College, Mumbai. He is married to Aditi Ghorpade, television actress in 2008. They dated for two years before they got married and their romance was kept low profile. He has been groomed into the role of a politician since the age of 14, when his father got elected as the chief minister of Maharashtra for the first time. Unlike his humorous and extroverted dad, Amit is quite reserved and introvert in nature. 

He started his political career with the Maharashtra Youth Congress at age 22. He was groomed by his experienced father. Amit gradually took charge of the sugar cooperatives and also look after the schools and educational institutions run by Deshmukh’s Manjra charitable trust in Latur. Later he started playing an active role in Vilasrao’s decision-making process and got into it in 2009 when he got elected as MLA for the first time.
