Ajitesh Bandopadhyay Biography 
Ajitesh Bandopadhyay was a theater film personality associated with Bengali art and cinema. He was an actor, playwright, activist and director. A doyen of Bengali theater, he brought many reforms in the field of Indian theater in the post-independent era, and his name is taken along with some of the great artists and his contemporaries, Shambhu Mitra and Utpal Dutt. He essayed noted character roles in Bengali movies such as Haate Bajare, Chhuti, Atithi, Kuheli, Ganadevata, Aaj Kaal Porshur Galpo, Thagini, Nidhiram Sardar, Hire Manik, Kapalkundala, and also Hindi movie, Samjhauta. He was actively involved with radio-plays and Jatra also. He passed away at a comparatively young age of 50 in year 1983.
Ajitesh Bandopadhyay was born on 30 September 1933 in West Bengal. He hailed from Ropogram, Purulia. His father was a coal miner, and he was the eldest son to his parents Bhubhanmohan and Lakshmirani. He completed his graduation from Kolkata, and started his profession as a lecturer at a college soon after. But he joined Nandikar theater group in 1960 and fully dedicated his life to the world of theater till his death in mid-1980s. He also played brief roles on Bengali big screen.
He remained close to Indian Peoples' Theatre Association, long before he began his active career with Nandikar. With Nandikar, he worked as a playwright, play director as well as a stage actor, and earned accolades for all these fields. He has shared stage space with some of the great stage actors of his time such as Rudraprasad Sengupta, Asit Bandopadhyaya and Keya Chakrabarty. In 1977, he left Nandikar and formed his own theatrical group Nandimukh. He was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Academy award in 1976 at the age of 42. He was one of the youngest recipients of this honour.
