Achuthanand Tanjore Ravi Biography

Achuthanand Tanjore Ravi is an Indian Photographer known for his Photojournalism and Portraiture Photography. He also works as a freelancer photographer and has conducted photo exhibitions. Many of his photographs have been displayed at various galleries and museums across India. Self-taught photographer Achuthanand Ravi captures stories that are a telling social commentary. His works on Kumbamela earned him accolades and it includes many rare photographs. Achuthanand works in an HR company during day time and uses night time to capture photos, his real passion, to financially support himself. 

 

Achuthanand Tanjore Ravi hails from Chennai. He was born in the year 1991. He began his photojournalism career in 2008 and worked as a freelancer photojournalist for many years. He is a self-taught photographer who learnt various techniques by attending various workshops of senior photographs, and also sought the help of internet to learn about this art more. He along his friend Ashok Kumar started Madras in Motion, a platform for budding photographers.

 

"Mahakumbh Mela-2013", a photo documentary on the Mahakumbh festival and "Beyond sight” a photo documentary on visually challenged people brought him international acclaim. While doing the photo documentary on the spiritual colours and vibrant way of life of Mahakumbh festival, he got a rare shot of a Nigerian group performing their own way of devotion. They wore eccentric costumes with peacock feathers, played a strange drum-like instrument, and Ravi had a unique experience capturing those pictures. He also captured the naga sadhus through his camera.

 

He made Disfigurement, a photo documentary on the lives of acid attack victims in India, which aimed to create a positive change in the victims as well as in society. For the documentary, he met nine survivors. Achuthanand works in an HR company by day and night walks as a photographer. He does editing at night and work on weekends. A fashion shoot called Lost In Highway, and Beyond Sight, a photo documentary on a visually impaired child are his major works.
