K. R. Ramsingh Biography 
K. R. Ramsingh was a theatre artist, film actor and voice actor associated with Tamil entertainment industry. He lived during the period, 1915 – 18 October 1985, and was one of the early actors in the B&W era of Tamil cinema. He hailed from a Rajput family, born in Nagercoil in Travancore kingdom during the British rule. He was awarded the Kalaimamani award for his contributions to arts and cinema. He was a voice actor too who dubbed for Prithviraj Kapoor for the Tamil version of Hindi iconic film, Mughal-E-Azam. Ramsingh died at the age of 70 in 1985 in a hospital in Chennai.
Ram Singh was born in Nagercoil in present day Kanya Kumari district of Tamil Nadu in the year 1915. His early education was done in his hometown, where he got associated with theatre since young. He was drawn towards acting and theatre at a very young age. Though he wanted to pursue a career in theater, he didn’t get consent from his parents. So he left his home at a young age and started his career with amateur theater plays. Over the years he switched between different drama companies, a time when films had just started to flourish in south India, and dramas were then popular.
He joined the "Sri Ramabala Gaana Vinoda Sabha", a theatre group where he worked with some leading artists of the time like M. S. Viswanathan and R. Muthuraman. His role in the play Puyalukkuppin where he performed in the role of a dictator earned him immense popularity and there was no turning back after that. The play had a successful run of more than 400 days, and he started receiving offers from films also. He played the lead role as Saint Vishwamitra in the 1948 Tamil film Brahmarishi Vishwamithra. He reprised the role in its Hindi version too. Later he was mostly seen playing supporting roles.
