Sitting For Long Hours Is Not Good

 

Individuals who spend long hours every day without raising up and moving should take note of this.  A new study hints that if people sit more every day, their risk for never-ending health problems like heart disease, diabetes and cancer is also more. Researchers have said that their conclusion have repercussions for lorry drivers, office workers, and those individuals who sit for long periods of time on a regular basis.

In order to reduce the risk of unending diseases, the researchers stated that people should move more and sit less. Compared with people who are physically less active, people who are physically more active are said to manage better in dealing with chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes and cancer. At the same time it is also equally necessary to look at the need to reduce sitting for long hours.

Many desk jobs in offices require long hours of sitting and this is harmful to our health. It is due to low levels of energy spend and inactivity. The research covered sixty three thousand men in the age group of forty-five to sixty-five. The men were asked whether or not they have had any chronic diseases. All the participants also stated the number of hours they spent sitting each day.

It was discovered that if men sat for four hours or less every day, they were less likely to have a condition like high blood pressuure, heart disease, diabetes or cancer than those men who had a habit of sitting for more than four hours daily. It was also noted by the researchers that the men who sat for six hours every day were at much greater risk for diabetes.

The amount of chronic diseases accounted for increased with the amount of sitting time of the participants. This happened even after the researchers considered the participant’s details like height, weight, education, income, age, and physical activity into account. There was a steady increase in risk of chronic diseases when more participants took part. The group of people who were sitting for more than eight hours obviously had the maximum risk.
