In Kerala, cultivation is based on seasons and climatic changes and very often they are linked to stars and planets. It’s not just a belief, but with scientific proofs, we can say that cultivation done based on Jnattuvela yields better results of the crops. Through this article I would like to give a brief note on Chodi Jnattuvela – which is related to heavy rains of Malayalam month Thulam - (Thulavarsham), normally falls between October 21^st and November 6.

As mentioned above, Chodi Jnattuvela is related to Thulavarsham. Normally it’s associated with heavy rainfalls. Though it’s not heavy as monsoon season, Thulavarsham is enough to cool the earth’s surface. Pleasant climate and sunshine till noon and heavy rains with dark clouds in the afternoon – it is the peculiarity of Thulavarsham. Though in rare occasions, beautiful rainbows can be seen. So Chodi Jnattuvela is a rare combination of thunder and lightning with charm of rainbows.

When atmosphere provides food for plants – As lightning and thunder is common in the Malayalam month Thulaam, it catalyzes Nitrogen fixation process of the atmosphere, giving more nutrition to plants. Nitrogen in the form of Nitrates reaches earth through heavy rains. Nitrates are absorbed by plants from soil. That’s the reason why areas with good thunder and lightning, plants grown in those areas get good nutrition and flowers well.

New cultivation on Chodi Star – As an old proverb, if cultivation is started on Chodi star, there is no poverty. The second cultivation survives only if ‘Thulam’ month gets good rain. It’s also the best time to add first set of minerals to soil. But this Jnattuvela and heavy rains may affect coconut flowers and stalk. It’s the best time to add pesticides to aracanut plantations. Cashew nut trees sprout during Chodi Jnattuvela. It’s the best season to plant tapioca, peas, groundnut and other lentils.

Chodi Jnattuvela entirely belongs to Libra - Chodi Jnattuvela is a part of Libra sun sign as it falls between October 21^st and November 6. Chodi is seen in bright Orange red colour. Counted among the 27 stars, it is also called Swathi. It is bigger than sun and 36.7 light years away from earth.
