Some Environment Thoughts On The World Environment Day

Today (June 5) is world environment day. Pollution is the most harmful thing for the environment. Pollution means contamination of air, soil, water and environment with harmful wastes. Through this article I want to tell different types of pollution and how they are harmful for the Nature.

The industrial revolution, growth of cities and use of motor vehicles are the main causes of pollution. Throughout the world environmental pollution has become a major problem today. It has not only damaged plant and animal life, but also affected the normal cycles in nature, such as the food chain, carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle and oxygen cycle.

Most of the air pollution is caused by the burning of fuels, especially fossil fuels, in factories, houses and motor vehicles. This process releases harmful gases and tiny particles into the air. Factories and industrial plants produce large amount of smoke which pollutes the air everyday. Smoke and most of the exhaust gases are harmful and have proved to be the cause of lung diseases and cancer. Harmful chemicals from factories and vehicles often get mixed with water vapor in the air and produce acid rain which kill plants and gradually eats away metals and buildings. Cloroflouro Carbons used in refrigerants cause depletion of the ozone layer thereby allowing increase in ultra-violet radiation.

Most of water pollution is caused by factories, farms and homes. Along with the sewage which flows into rivers, industrial discharges, human and animal wastes also pollute water. Several insecticides, used to protect crops, fruits and vegetables also pollute the under-ground water. When we drink this water we become victims of several diseases.

The land pollution is mainly caused by pesticides and other chemicals used to grow better crops. Often, a pesticide poisons many more organisms than those intended. Some of these poisons are passed through the food chain eventually reaching and harming human beings. Solid wastes are another cause of land pollution.

In many places noise is a major problem and has proved to be a serious health hazard. Noise pollution causes blood pressure, anger and even peptic ulcer. Radiation is another dangerous pollutant. Nuclear weapons, X-rays, microwave ovens-all produce radiations which are harmful. Today there is a worldwide effort going on to create awareness towards this fatal problem called pollution. Scientists are engaged in developing techniques to reduce pollution at different levels.
