You know that the blazing sun is an infinite ocean in inexhaustible energy without which the world cannot survive for long. It is he who lights up the entire world. But does he announce his arrival with the beat of drums, the blowing of trumpets or by flying his banners? For from, it, he toils untiringly and silently for the good of the world at large. And he has been serving the world without rest or respite from time immemorial.

The same could be said of the other messengers of God namely, air and water. The thought that the service rendered by you can never stand comparison with that of the sun, air and light should suffice to act as a miraculous antidote for your egoism. Instead of bragging that you have helped many fellow-beings, believe that it was God who used you as a best tool to serve them. Disown all credit for the achievement, offer it as God’s feet and enjoy blessedness. Let the thought that you are nil and God is all be always uppermost in your mind. Let it be your conviction that you will have no existence but for God. The stronger you conviction, the less likely you are to fall a prey to ego. Order your ego to go away from you once for all.

There may arise occasions when people misinterpret your intention and criticize you for your eagerness to serve your fellow beings. Let it not upset you. Remember that even gold has to pass through the hottest fire to get refines. Stay unruffled by the harsh words and continue to serve the God in man with renewed vigour and vitality. Just as you did in the case of praise, offer the blame also at God’s feet and unburden yourself. At the same time undertake introspection in order to find out whether the adverse remarks were really uncalled for and unjustified or if you had erred somewhere to invite criticism. This should searching may reveal to you the secret that the criticism leveled against you is some sort of a feeler sent by God to test the poignancy of your will to serve others. It may even serve as catharsis for your spiritual growth. Never allow resistance or rebukes to deter you from serving the fellow beings, never let these roadblocks discourage you.

Your experiences in serving your fellow beings will sharpen your awareness and concentration and will facilitate deep meditation. It is no small gain.
