LIP SMACKING INDIAN APPETIZERS

 

The Indian appetizers are the snack foods that taken between meals to satisfy your cravings for food or during evening times or just before the main course of food. Some of them are taken along with food also. An Indian dinner party could not be made justice without the appetizers. These are made with grains, lentils and vegetables and many of them are fried in oil. You have both non-vegetarian appetizers and vegetarian appetizers. They are easy to carry and do not spoil in a short time frame. So they are preferred for picnics and short excursions.

 

Some of the famous Indian appetizers are samosa, vada, dahi vada, paneer tikka, pakoras, samosa filling, chaat varieties, mushroom puffs, chicken puffs, vegetable puffs, egg puffs, warqi, paneer sandwich, carrot fritters, cashew fritters, banana fritters, etc. The crispy and crunchy foods are good during the cold, rainy and cloudy days. Both adults and children love to eat such delicacies as they are lip smacking and healthy. Bhel puri and Masala pav are what we used to eat in the roadside stalls. The Aloo Pakoda goes well with hot ginger tea in cold evenings and bajji and chutney is another good combination.

 

Some of the Indian appetizers are taken along with sauce or chutney. Medhuvadai and sambar is yet another South Indian dish that will tempt you to eat more and more. The golden brown crispy vada from the kadai of your mum has the worth of its weight in gold. Chakali is Maharastrian delicacy that resembles the murukku of Tamil Nadu but sweet in taste. They are both hot and sweet in taste and could be stored for a week.

 

There will not be an Indian who has not tasted samosa in his life. This is one of the common Indian appetizers that are seen both in North India and South India. The method of making the stuffing differs from place to place. You can stuff anything of your choice like finely chopped vegetables and garam masala cooked together or add shredded meat together with them. Alternatively you can cut the boiled egg into two halves and mix them with masala and use them as stuffing.

 

The appetizers can be categorized as bread appetizers, chicken appetizers, potato appetizers, cabbage appetizers, vegetarian appetizers, sea food appetizers, mushroom appetizers, rice appetizers, paneer appetizers, kebab varieties, etc. These Indian appetizers in fact stimulate your taste buds and induce the appetite to move to main course meals.

 

It is the tradition of many Indian families to serve hot appetizer together with sweet appetizer when a guest visits them. Mostly they are served with hot tea or coffee or cool drinks. The choice of the appetizers and the beverages depends upon the climate and availability. Though there are a variety of store bought appetizers at our homes these days, they cannot match the ones that are made in our own homes. Making them at homes from scratch is the Indian style of cooking. That is why westerners love Indian appetizers.
