Welcome group Graduate School of Hotel Administration beckoned all the foodies of Manipal to its Food Festival held on 24 august in Hotel Valley view. The event began in the evening around seven and went on till 10 in the night. Being a two day festival it was attended by a lot of people from not just Manipal but from outside too.

The main theme was American diner even though the food items seemed to be semi-American with a slight tinge of Mexican. Brian Paul Sciplon, one of the guest members at the event said,” the food is very good and it’s a representation of ethnic cuisine. I personally loved the beef burger”.

Sponsored by companies like Nandini, Chennad cement, Amul ice cream, Nilgiris, Big FM Mangalore, the event was organized with a budget of rupees 55000.  It wasn’t just the food but what was most striking was the ambience with posters of rock bands arranged everywhere and the menu being in the shape of a disc and also the fact that a lot of people from different walks of life were brought together to interact as well as enjoy some of the best food out there.

The marketing head Guru said that the festival was organized by the students of WGSHA mainly the fourth year senior students with the juniors having to play the roles of waiters and cooks. The event happens four times a year organized by the four houses of students and this time it was the Ranjith house.

All this was done with active participation from everybody and one could really see a sense of camaraderie between everyone. “The work for the event began one week before. We have had food fests for many years but this time we are getting casual”, said Sarah.

The food items included the delicious southern fried chicken, Burritos (Mexican), mushroom burgers and so on along with a free complimentary Virgin Mojito. Frozen lagoon was the drink of the day.  There were about two hundred tickets which were sold out and the event provides a platform for the students to gain some experience in Hotel Management. It was promoted by the means of viral marketing, advertisements, radio and the good old word of mouth method. The saddest part is that such an event wouldn’t happen again for at least the next one month.
