Vidhu Pratap Biography

Vidhu Pratap is one of the leading playback singers of Malayalam film industry at present. He is an accomplished singer with several hit songs in several landmark movies and has now moved to other south Indian languages as well. He hails of Kaithamukku of Thiruvananthapuram city and was born on September 1, 1980. He has successfully conducted many stage shows India and abroad.

 

Born in the capital city of Kerala, he did his early education from Holy Angels and then completed his schooling at Christ Nagar. During his school days, he actively participated in mono-acts, mimicry and singing competitions. Vidhu was the Arts Club Secretary in Mar Ivanios college, while doing graduation there. In 1997-98, at the age of 17, he won the 'Voice of the Year Award' in a music competition conducted by Asianet. It gave him direct break to playback singing as well. At the age of 9, he has rendered his voice for Malayalam movie called 'Paadamudra'. As an adult playback singer, his debut happened in the year 1999 with the movie, Devadasi. The song was with a classical touch - 'Pon Vasantham'. Same year, he sang the song, Sukriya for Kamal’s movie – Niram. This song gave him the big break to the industry, as this song was listed among the top foot tappers of the year.

 

In 2001, Vidhu won the Kerala State Film award in 2001 for the song 'Kalame Kaikolluka nee' from the movie – Sayahnam. 2002 top romantic song, Sukhamanee Nilavu of Nammal helped him to establish his name among the successful playback singers of Malayalam. Once again, this movie was directed by Kamal. Same year, he sang another top song of Malayalam, "Valeduthhal" of Meesa Madhavan, that won V. Shantaram Award for best choreography that year.

 

Ilaiyaraaja introduced him in Tamil in a movie 'Solla Marantha Kathai' (2002).His top hits are with the composer Alex Paul. His top songs are included in the movies - 'Thanmatra', 'Vasthavam', 'Kadha', 'Kangaroo', 'In Ghosthouse Inn', 'Lollipop', 'Pazhassi raja','Orunal Varum' and 'Violin'. He has received training from music maestro Devarajan for four years. He is married to Deepthi Prasad, a TV anchor and a professional classical dancer.
