Sunil Barve Biography

Sunil Barve is an Indian film, television and theatre actor who is associated with Marathi. He is also a radio jockey. He started his career doing bit roles in television and plays and later moved to good roles. He completed 25 years in the industry and has launched an initiative named Herbarium through his production company Subak with the aim to "bring back the lost glory of Marathi musical plays". Through his production company, he remade five classic plays with new directors and new cast. The new directors are Chandrakant Kulkarni, Mangesh Kadam, Pratima Kulkarni, Vijay Kenkre and Girish Joshi. He has given the choice to the directors to choose the plays. He too, is to direct one play of his choice.

Sunil was born in Mumbai on October 6, 1966. He completed degree from Patkar College, Mumbai and started his career as a medical representative for US Vitamins. As his real dream was to become an actor, he quit job after one month and joined theatre plays later. He used to go to singing & tabla classes and got actively involved in Little Theatre Group. Thus he got his first theatre work, Vinay Apte's musical play 'Aflatoon' where he was introduced as singer actor. This group included some big names like Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Atul Parchure and he was quite nervous during his first stage performance. Till now, Sunil regards Aflatoon as his best stage play. A young married man in 'Asech Aamhi Saare' and that of blind man in 'All The Best' are his next favourites.

As a film actor, he has appeared in Hindi movies like - Tunnu Ki Tina and Astitva. His Marathi movies include – Atmavishwas, Tu Tithe Mee, Lalbagcha Raja and Anandache Jhaad. At present he is active in television also.
