Sonali Majumdar Biography

Sonali Majumdar is a young dancer and reality contest winner. She is a professional salsa dancer from West Bengal who won India's Got Talent – Season 4 aired on Colors TV in 2012. She also finished at the third position at Colors TV’s Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa – dance contest the following year. She comes from a humble background and after her outstanding performances in two top reality shows on Indian television she turned a sensation and star with immense popularity among TV viewers.

Sonali Majumdar was born on 28 November 2005 in Sholoardari, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. Currently she resides in Mumbai, where she is fully busy with her professional career. She was born into a modest farmer's family settled in Bonga- a small village located on the India-Bangladesh border. Sonali’s favourite pastime at home is to feed poultry. Her talent was noticed by her parents since young. Her family realised that the seven-year-old's potential will be wasted in the village, and hence the family shifted to Kolkata.

In 2012 she appeared as a contestant at India's Got Talent – Season 4 aired on Colors TV and she conquered millions of hearts with her dance moves. She was paired with yet another Salsa dancer Maraju Sumanth. Maraju Sumanth was 13, and Sonali Majumdar was 7 when the pair performed at a glittering grand finale. The two talented and energetic children were trained at Bivash Dance Academy- a small salsa dance academy in Kolkata. Bivash Chowdhary was their trainer and mentor.

In the finals, Maraju Sumanth and Sonali Majumdar walked away with the maximum votes defeating singer Deepraj from Gangtok and Jharkhand-based trapeze artistes Mukesh and Tanya. They received the grand prize of Rs 50 lakh from Shah Rukh Khan with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, while they were promoting for their film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The huge amount received by the children was later used for their education purposes, with advanced courses at world class salsa training classes in future. Sumanth's father works in railways, Bhuvaneswar.
