Sidharth Bharathan Biography

Sidharth Bharathan is a Malayalam film actor and director who made his acting debut through Kamal’s Nammal in 2002, where he played the lead role. The movie also marked the debut of actors – Jishnu, Renuka Menon and Bhavana and this campus movie was a huge hit at box office. Sidharth is the son of one of the most talented Malayalam directors, late Bharathan and noted film and theater actress K.P.A.C. Lalitha.

Though he made his successful debut, he always dreamt to become a director like his father and hence moved to direction field after appearing in a few more movies. He made his directorial debut with 2012 movie, Nidra which was a remake of an old Malayalam classic directed by his father. Though the movie was praised by critics, it went unnoticed due to lack of promotion. Same year he played the supporting role of Sameer, an alcoholic poet in National award winning movie, Spirit directed by Ranjith which earned him rave reviews. Though his role was short, it was one of the pivot roles of this movie.

He was born in Chennai on 26 May 1983 to Malayalam film director Bharathan and actress K.P.A.C. Lalitha, known for character roles since late 1960’s. Siddharth made his film debut through smash hit – Nammal (2002), often regarded as a trendsetter for music of campuses. The songs were Rakshasi and Sukhamanee Nilavu became huge chartbusters and the movie too, that treated motherhood in a special way was a huge cash earner. The movie also marked the comeback of talented actress Suhasini after a long break.

Sidharth later appeared in a few more movies like Youth Festival, Kaakkakarumban, Rasikan and Ennittum before he took a sabbatical from acting in 2004 to concentrate on to direction. Then he took a film course abroad before settling once again in Mollywood. Year 2012 marked his comeback as a director and actor. He teamed up with his co-actor Jishnu for his debut directorial venture Nidra. Rima Kallingal played the lead heroine’s role in this movie. He also played character roles in Nidra, Olipporu and Rebecca Uthup Kizhakkemala. He was married to Anjana since 2008. But they divorced in 2012.
