Sameer Thahir Biography

Sameer Thahir is one of the most successful film directors of Malayalam cinema, belonging to new-generation category. He is also a cinematographer. He has worked with many new directors of Malayalam cinema like Amal Neerad, Anwar Rasheed and Aashiq Abu as a cinematographer before entering the direction field through the commercial hit, Chappa Kurushu, which gave new dimensions to the careers of its leading actors -  Vineeth Sreenivasan, Fahadh Faasil, Remya Nambeesan and Nivetha Thomas. This movie was in news for the controversial kissing scene between Fahadh Faasil and Remya Nambeesan, though it helped to gain public attention and publicity. The movie was inspired from Korean movie Handphone.

Sameer C Thahir was born on 7 November 1986 in Kochi. He studied at Maharajas College Ernakulam from where he got creative ideas to make movies. His passion to photography later moved to wedding films, ad films, cinematography and finally movie direction. Big B, with Mammootty in the main lead was his first movie as a Cinematographer for which he won Kerala State awards. It was followed by Daddy Cool. In 2011, he directed his first movie, Chaappa Kurish which was the comeback movie of Fahadh Faasil after a long break of 10 years. His new style and appearance gave new dimensions to heroes on Malayalam cinema. This movie was also one of the earliest of new generation movies in Malayalam. Remya Nambeesan was also seen in a new avatar which played a significant role in the success of the movie.

Again he continued with his cinematography work with the successful movies, Nidra and Diamond Necklace. In 2013, he directed one of the segments of Anchu Sundharikal, followed by critically acclaimed movie, Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi starring Dulquer Salman & Sunny Wayne. Sameer got married to Neethu on 12 November 2013.
