Sarvadaman D. Banerjee Biography

Sarvadaman D. Banerjee is a noted film and television actor most active in the 1990s. He is best known for playing Lord Krishna in Ramanand Sagar’s Doordarshan mythological series aired on Doordarshan in the mid-1990s. The show earned him instant success and recognition. Mostly associated with mythological and historical roles, he played the title role of Swami Vivekananda in National award winning offbeat Hindi film, Swami Vivekananda released in 1998.

 

He also played the title role of Adi Shankara in National award winning Adi Shankaracharya (1983). Though played several roles on big screen, everyone still remembers him as ‘Lord Krishna’ on small screen. In 2016 he made a comeback to Bollywood almost after 2 decades through the blockbuster, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, where he played a cameo role of Chachal. In 1986 he played lead role of a blind flutist in the highly acclaimed Telugu film, Sirivennela. The accomplished artist Hariprasad Chaurasia's flute rendering was used for his character, a very rare phenomenon.

 

Sarvadaman D. Banerjee was born into a Bengali family in UP. He hails from Magarwara, Unnao, and was born in the year 1965. He graduated from the Pune Film Institute before he joined entertainment field. He is associated with entertainment industry since 1980s, and worked in movies mostly based on mythological characters or biographical roles. He has worked in Hindi, Sanskrit and Telugu movies. But he received the real stardom through mythological shows on Doordarshan. He portrayed the role of Lord Krishna in both Lord Krishna and Om Namah Shivay, the popular shows of 1990s. He was also seen in the shows, Arjuna and Jai Ganga Maiya.

 

Banerjee now teaches meditation in Rishikesh. He is also known for his involvement in several activities for a social cause. He is associated with NGO PANKH known for their contributions to underprivileged children and women in Uttarakhand.
