Rini Simon Khanna Biography

Rini Simon Khanna is an Indian television news anchor who worked with Doordarshan during 1985-2001 and is a household name. She started her journalism career as a newscaster with All India Radio in 1982 and later moved to Doordarshan and became one of the most popular news readers of the National channel. She started her career as voiceover professional and anchor before reaching All India Radio and used to do comparing in stage shows since school and college days which later proved worth for her bright career. This ‘bobbed hair’ English news reader has been one of the popular faces during the decade of 1990’s.

Rini Simon is a Keralite by origin. She was brought up in Delhi and hence she is not proficient in her mother tongue Malayalam. Her father was an Indian Air Force officer and hence her childhood was spent travelling from one city to other. She schooled at 9 cities throughout India and finished her schooling from The Air Force School at Subroto Park, Delhi in 1981. She graduated in English literature from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University. She completed Master’s in History and PG diploma in Journalism from Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi.

Now she has spent about 3 decades in television industry as a successful newsreader and event host. She also produced and hosted programmes and interviews on All India Radio and was selected to read the Prime time National News on All India Radio. Later she moved to Doordarshan. She started her career in 1985, co-anchoring news with Tejeshwar Singh. She has also rendered commentary and voiceovers for documentaries, advertisement films and movies.
