Ramesh Talwar Biography

Ramesh Talwar is a famous theatre personality from Baffa (Aptabad). He is also known as a screenwriter and film director of Bollywood. Baseraa (1981) and Zamana (1985) are his most commercially successful movies. He won a Filmfare nomination for Best direction for Baseera. He is also a very popular child artist of Hindi cinema, the most popular being the child’s role in 1959 super hit movie, Dhool Ka phool. He also appeared as child artist in movies like Love in Shimla (1958) and Phool aur Kaliyan (1960). Phool aur Kaliyan produced by V. Shantaram won Gold medal for best children's film. He has also served as the assistant director of Yash Chopra and has become the part of many of his directorial ventures during the period, 1969 and 1979 before he started his career as an independent film director from 1977 onwards.

 

1969 movie, Ittefaq started his association with legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra. Then he assisted Yash Chopra in 7 films from 1969-1979. Doosra Aadmi (1977), which starred Raakhee, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Deven Verma and Parikshat Sahni marked his independent career as a film director. Though the movie received numerous Filmfare nominations, it was declared a flop at box office. Among his 7 directorial ventures, only Basera and Zamana (1985) managed to be successful. So later on, he changed his attention to theatre works and television programs. He has also done a few tele-films and his association with television industry brought him more success than film industry.

 

He started his theater direction in the year 1963. Till 2010, he did around 25 plays. His movie, Aaj Phir Jeene ki Tamannaa Hai, starring Shatrughan Sinha, Rekha, Satish Shah and Hrishitaa Bhatt is to release in 2014. Talwar has done some plays with various film personalities.
