Rishi Kapoor Biography

Rishi Kapoor is an Indian actor who concentrated in Hindi film industry. He is also a film director and producer. He was born on 4th September 1952 in Chembur in Mumbai in Maharashtra. His nickname is Chintoo. His parents are Raj Kapoor, the famous Indian actor in Hindi and Krishna Kapoor.

 

He studied at Campion School at Mumbai together with his brothers Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. He acted with many hit films with the actress Neetu Singh and engaged to her on 13th April 1979. They got married on 1980 and have two children Ranbir Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni. His son is also an actor and his daughter is a fashion designer.

 

The actresses Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are his nieces. His debut film was in 1970 in Mera Naam Joker produced by his father. He played the younger role of his father in this film. He played the role of hero for the first time in the film Bobby in 1973 with Dimple Kapadia.

 

He also played supporting roles in some films like Fanaa and Hum Tum. He directed Aishwarya Rai in the film Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1998. She acted in one English language film Don’t Stop Dreaming. This film was directed by his cousin Aditya Raj Kapoor. The three Kapoor brothers, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor jointly produced a film named Prem Granth. He acted as himself in the film Chintu Ji. His film with Kamal Hassan named Saagar was a hit film and was sent to Oscars.

 

Some of the films that he has acted include Chandni, Khoj, Azaad Desh Ke Gulam, Ajooba, Henna, Sahibaan, Gurudev, Anmol, Damini – Lightning, Dhartiputra, Pehla Pehla Pyaar, Hum Dhono, Daraar, Jai Hind, Raju Chacha, Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi, Prem Granth, Yaraana, Jai Hind, Tehzeeb, Pyaar Mein Twist, Om Shanti Om, Namastey London, Agneepath, Do Dooni Chaar, Patiala House, Sadiyaan, Student of the Year, etc.

 

He got National Film Award for Best Child Artist for the film Mera Naam Joker. He received Filmfare Best Actor award, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. He was nominated for the Filmfare awards five times. He has got many other awards and honors.

 

Kapoor was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018 and went to New York City for treatment. After a successful treatment for over a year, Kapoor returned to India on 26 September 2019. Kapoor was admitted to Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai on 29 April 2020 after he had breathing difficulty. He died on 30 April 2020 from leukemia.
