Poornitha Biography

Poornitha is a south Indian actress who concentrates on Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages. She entered acting field as a child actress doing television serials as well as movies and later moved to adult roles. She mostly appears in supporting roles and Paranthu and Sms are her latest Malayalam movies known for such roles. In her last release, Ilampuyal, Tamil movie directed by K. S.Thurai she played lead role opposite Sri Lankan actor, Vashanth Sellathurai. Most recently she played the role of Janani in 2013 television series – Thayumanavan. She has also successfully anchored a few television shows.

Her real name is Kalyani and she was born on 23 November 1990. Poornitha is her screen name. She entered acting field in the early 2000’s in child’s role. Alli Thandha Vaanam in 2001 marked her big screen debut where she played the role of Julie. The movie was directed by Sridhar Prasad and starred Prabhu Deva, Murali and Laila in lead roles. In the movie, her name was credited as Baby Kalyani. Later she appeared in a series of Malayalam and Tamil movies in child artist’s role. Kattuchembakam, Ramanna, Shree, Mullavalliyumthenmavum and Jayam are among the movies in which she appeared in child roles.

In 2006, she debut as heroine in Tamil flick - Maranthen Meimaranthen. In this debut movie, she was paired opposite Yoga. Prathi Gnayiru 9.30 to 10.00 was her second release where she was paired opposite Karunas. In 2007, she debut Telugu with ‘Manchu Kurise Velalo’ and 2008 Malayalam release, SMS marked her Malayalam debut. Though she played lead roles in a few movies, it has not been successful and now she is accepting supporting roles in all south Indian languages.
