Pooja Sharma Biography

Pooja Sharma is a successful model and popular television actress, best known for playing the protagonist character Draupadi in the Hindu mythological series - 'Mahabharat'. Earlier she played a role – Sia Bhel in the television series "Teri Meri Love Stories" and “Pavitra Rishta”. In 2006 Pooja participated in the Femina Miss India Contest, where she finished in “Top 10 finalists”.

She was born and brought up in Delhi. She was interested in acting and modelling since her younger days. She started her career as an anchor for Doordarshan for sports-based talk show and later for ZOOM TV, TVC etc. She also worked as a ramp model for a while and contested in Femina Miss India 2006, where she finished among top 10. As an actress, her television debut happened with "Teri Meri Love Stories” – an anthology series where she was casted opposite Karan Kundra. The episode was show casted on 16 September, 2012.

She was not confident if she would get the role of Draupati for the series 'Mahabharat'. Actually she felt funny. The casting director repeatedly asked her to attend the audition, but she didn’t take it seriously. Actually she was not at all confident. When she was selected to play Draupati, she burst into tears and she was praised by Indian and Indonesian audience alike. She took the role seriously only after auditions and she watched the episodes of epic Mahabharata, show casted on Doordarshan in the 1980s. She watched Roopa Ganguly playing Draupati, closely. During one of her shoots, her dress caught fire when she tried to warm herself. However her hair dresser saw the mishap and put out the fire. Though the actress was not interested in tear jerking soaps earlier, now she feel respect towards them.
