Mohan Bhandari Biography

Mohan Bhandari was one of the busiest stars on small screen in the 1980s, when television serials have just started booming. One of the most popular actors till mid-1990s, he lost his charisma after the birth of so many television channels. Yet he returned in a bang with the television soap, Saat Phere, playing the father of female protagonist. His role of a struggling father to find a suitable groom for a dark-complexion girl gained him huge recognition. He played brief roles in a few Bollywood films like Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Paheli’ and Aamir Khan starrer ‘Mangal Pandey-The Rising’. He portrayed supporting roles on big screen and small screen. His son Dhruv Bhandari is also a TV actor, best known for the series, Rakt Sambandh and Tere Sheher Mein. Mohan Bhandari died of brain tumor on 24 September 2015.

 

Mohan Bhandari was associated with Doordarshan serials in the late 1980s. He worked in The State Bank of India. ‘Khandaan’, 'Karz', 'Parampara', 'Jeevan Mrityu', 'Pathjhad', 'Gumraah' and 'Mile Sur Mera Tumhara' are some of his popular roles on Doordarshan. A veteran actor of early days of Doordarshan serials, he was one of the sought TV actors of early 1990s. Witnessed many ups and downs in his professional career, Bhandari’s career faded with mid-1990s though he played noted character roles during this time. "Bawandar", "Pratighaat", "Mangal Pandey" and "Paheli" are his noted film roles in the 2000s.

 

A few more noted Television roles include - "Parampara", "Karz", "Kitty Party", "Abhiman" and "Tanhaiya". Bhandari first got the attack of tumour around 19 years ago in 1996 while he was shooting for a film in US. He was working for the television shows – ‘Parampara' and 'Karz' in 1996, and the director had to change the script. He operated for brain tumour for the first time at that time. He got cured and became active with his work after that. However he was suffering from the disease during his last three years, which eventually claimed his life in 2015.
