Mantra Biography

Puranjit DasGupta, known by the name Mantra is a Bollywood actor, television presenter, model, radio jockey and voice over artist, now settled in Mumbai. He is one of the successful Indian Radio Jockeys who has bagged the RAPA Award for Best Radio Jockey and Promax Award for his show "Mumbai Local" on Red FM, twice. Puranjit is the son of actress Chandra DasGupta and publisher Prabir DasGupta. He debut big screen with Tum Mile in 2009, where he played second lead. Later he appeared in supporting roles in Game (2010), Bheja Fry 2 (2010), Hum Tum Shabana (2011) and London, Paris, New York (2012). He debut big screen as lead actor through Bollywood movie – Dil Patanga in 2014. He is a popular anchor and has hosted many live shows. He also appears in television commercials.

Puranjit DasGupta was born on August 21, 1982 in Kolkata. He spent his childhood days in Indore where he did his schooling from Indore Public School. He took on the nom de plume Mantra when he joined India’s first private radio station Radio Mirchi in 2000. He started his career as a radio jockey. In a career spanning to more than 13 years, he has worked as radio jockey in Radio Mirchi, Radio City and Red FM, in Indore, Delhi and Mumbai. He joined Radio City in Delhi in the year 2003.

He hosted Route 91 on Radio city and simultaneously started taking acting lessons from noted theater personality Barry John at IMAGO. He acted in many theater productions during this period. Infinite Theater's The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Divya Arora's Melody of Love and Sohaila Kapoor's Ouch are the noted works. Mantra's first major TV appearance was 'Lagegi' on UTV's Bindass channel in 2007 and did more than 100 episodes. He later hosted television shows like Zara Nach Ke Dikha, Mystery Hunters on Discovery Kids and SET Max's Dirty Khabar.
