Gul Khan Biography

Gul Khan is a noted producer and writer associated with Hindi television industry. She is co-creative head and co-producer of 4 Lions Films. She has written many successful soaps like Qubool Hai and Bengali soap - Bojhena Se Bojhena (Remake of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon for Star Plus). She is a writer, producer and director of popular soap, Qubool Hai which tells the story of the conflicts between traditional views and modern views, in a Muslim community.

Gul holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from MCRC, Jamia Millia University, New Delhi. She started her career as an assistant on the hugely popular dance show “Boogie Woogie” on Sony Television. Later she scripted and directed some popular television shows like “Sanjeevani”, “Shaheen” and “Rishtey”. She has also been associated with Indonesian television industry during the same period and has written some wonderful shows like “Bewang Merah Bewang Putih” and “Mimpi Manis”. These landmark shows on Indonesian television makes her a popular writer cum artist. In 2008, she turned a producer and established 4 Lions Films, known for television serials. Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, Geet Hui Sabse Parayi, Humse Hai Liife etc are some of the shows she produced and directed under this banner.

Gul has once admitted than she had to face discrimination as her surname is Khan. When she wanted to sell the rights to Qubool Hai, it took a lot of efforts to get a broadcaster. Zee TV bought the rights to the serial. She even felt tensed that a Muslim show won’t be accepted by Indian audience. But later it became a successfully run television soap and the top show of ZEE TV, which got 3.4 ratings.
