G. V. Prakash Biography
G. V. Prakash Kumar is an Indian music director and singer whose works are mostly concentrated on to Tamil movies. Since early 2010s, he is one of the iconic figures of Tamil music industry. Prakash is the nephew of great Indian music director, A. R. Rahman and grandson of popular Malayalam composer of yesterdays, R. K. Shekhar. He is the son of noted singer and elder sister of Rahman, A. R. Reihana. Prakash is married to popular south Indian singer, Saindhavi. They got married most recently on June 27, 2013 at the Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar Hall in Chennai. Prakash is the background scorer of the Bollywood crime film Gangs of Wasseypur. This work was well appreciated and the movie was a hit too.
Prakash’s entry to music world was through A. R. Rahman’s composition of 1993 movie, Gentleman where he worked as a vocalist. Later he worked in many of his uncle’s projects. As an individual music director, his first project was Pakka Thirudan released in 2004. But the failure of this movie couldn’t give a good start to his music career followed by the failed projects, Arun Weds Harini and Taxi driver. The flop of Taxi driver prompted him to work as a singer and vocalist and technician roles. But his music for the movies – Veyyil and Madras Pattanam brought his career back to track. It was followed by the success of Dhanush’s project, Mayakkam Enna which placed G. V. Prakash as a successful composer of Tamil cinema.
As a singer, he has given a few Tamil hits. The Remo song of Anniyan, that he sang aside Nakul and Nelwyn. He sang its Hindi and Telugu versions also. His other hits include Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal and political satire Saguni. In 2013, he launched his own production house under the name "GV Prakash Kumar Productions" and he is to debut as an actor with the movie, Pencil opposite Sri Divya.
