Cyrus Broacha Biography

Cyrus Broacha is a celebrated host of Indian television most known for his comic appearances. He is better known as political satirist, star host and also an author. MTV’s most successful show on prank, MTV Bakra made Cyrus a celebrated personality of Indian television during 2000’s. He is also a star anchor and theatre personality. His show The Week That Wasn't on CNN-IBN with its comic flavours also needs special mention. Among Indian hosts of various Television shows, Cyrus of course enjoys the top position and has become a role model for many people to follow.

 

Cyrus was born in Mumbai on August 7, 1971 to a Parsi father and Catholic mother. His schooling was done at Cathedral and John Connon School and graduation from St. Xavier's College, both from Mumbai. Since childhood days, he was active in school drama and used to write for school magazines as well. At the age of 12, he appeared in a Bollywood movie – Jalwa. He did his first professional play Brighton Beach Memoirs under Pearl Padamsee, one year later. He continued with his tehatre life at college days also. He also came into the limelight during his college's Malhar festival. When FM Radio came to India, he joined as a radio jockey. He was studying at college during this time.

 

After graduation, Cyrus joined Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York to study acting for theatre. Once returned he appeared in many television shows as well as ads and has also hosted many corporate events. MTV made him a star icon and he has been its top anchor since early 2000’s. He has interviewed all big stars of Bollywood as MTV host and has always remained in limelight as well. He has also hosted many cricket shows and interviewed celebrated cricketers. He is also a columnist who writes for two leading national papers and two magazines. Karl, Aaj aur Kal – released in 2010 is a semi-autobiographical comedy about celebrities, Bollywood and politics. His second released book is ‘The Average Indian Male’ (2011).
