Anupam Shyam Biography

Anupam Shyam is an accomplished actor known for portraying character roles onscreen and mini screen. He is best known for portraying the role of Thakur Sajjan Singh in STAR Plus TV series Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya in 2009. Some of his Bollywood film roles include – Bandit queen, Parzania, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Slumdog Millionaire, Shakti- The Power, Bandit Queen, Zakhm, Satya, Dil se, Lajja, Nayak etc. He has worked in many international projects set in India, with Indian themes. He has been featured in both mainstream and intellectual cinema. He was a supporter of Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement.

Experimenting with different genres, Anupam has portrayed varying roles on screen – from simple roles to comic and negative ones. Kasoor, Rakta Charitra 2, Well done Abba, Market, Raaz – The Mystery Continues, Wanted, The Rising: Ballad of Mangal Pandey, Golmaal, Bawander, Paap, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Lagaan, Dastak, Tamanna, Sardari Begum, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa and Dushman are a few more film roles. Currently he portrays the role of Tauji in television series - Doli Armaano Ki. Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath and Rishtey are a few more television roles. He portrayed the character of Ganjendra in the ‘Kyunki’ TV series.

He played the negative role, Guru who kidnaps children from slums in the highly acclaimed international project – Slumdog Millionaire. Though he mostly negative characters both on the small and big screen, he caught quick attention and fame with the role of 'Thakur' in TV show Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya. His "Allahabadi" dialect for the show was also well received. He was born on 20 September 1957 in Dispur, Guwahati, Assam. He completed Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts, Lucknow in the year 1985.
