Anand Abhyankar Biography

Anand Abhyankar was a Marathi film, stage and television actor who has appeared in character and supporting roles in a few Bollywood films also. His noted films include Spandan (2012), Balgandharva (2011), Matichya Chuli (2006), Vaastav (1999) and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain (2000). Mala Sasu Havi, Fu Bai Fu and Asambhav are his noted Marathi television serials. He died on 23 December 2012 in a car accident aged 49.

 

Abhyankar was born to Moreshwar and Ashadevi in Nagpur on June 2, 1963. He graduated from Pune and during his college days itself, he developed an interest in acting. Later he joined various theatre groups and has become a part of several stage plays. His first big break came with the commercial play Kuryat Sada Tingalam. It belonged to satire group and was written by Shivraj Gorle. This show was staged for more than 1000 times and was quite successful. Marathi play Aai Retire Hotey is his second noted work which was staged for more than 950 shows. Later he played side roles in many Marathi and Hindi movies and also appeared in a few television commercials.

 

His noted plays are Kuryat Sada Tingalam, Asa Me Kai Gunha Kela, Aai Retire Hotey, Vyakti Aani Valli, Ghetla Shingawar and Pappa Saanga Kunache. His noted television serials include – Gharkul, Asambhav, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, Fu Bai Fu and Mala Sasu Havi. He has appeared in Bollywood movies in comedy, serious to character roles and a few include – Vaastav, Tera mera saat rahe, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain, Pappu can’t dance saala and Ek Vivaah... Aisa Bhi. In the television play, Assambav aired in 2009, he played the role of 85-year old man suffering with Parkinson's disease. His shivering body language was highly appreciated.
