Gufran-ullah Beig Biography 
Gufran-Ullah Beig is an Indian meteorologist and a scientist who works at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune. He also serves as the programme director of System of Air Quality Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), known for forecasting weather and other climatic variations. One of the leading Indian meteorologists at present, he became the first Indian scientist to receive the prestigious Norbert Gerbier-Mumm International Award of the World Meteorological Organization and he was honored in the year 2005. He is also a recipient of India’s most prestigious science award, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, the following year. Young Muslim Scientist Award – 1999 and Maharana Udai Singh Award 2007 are other honours.
Gufran-Ullah Beig hails from Maharashtra, and was born on 24 May 1961. He is currently settled in Pune. He completed his graduation from Rajasthan University, and did his advanced studies from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, and finally Physical Research Laboratory and National Center for Atmospheric Research, US, where he took his doctorate degree. After higher studies, he returned to India and joined Mohanlal Sukhadia University as an assistant professor in 1994. Later he got associated with different research institutions of the country as a professor and researcher.
His study on anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases is regarded as his top contribution to the field of Science, and he has also documented and published his research works. In 2005 he earned global recognition in the field when he was awarded Norbert Gerbier-Mumm International Award by World Meteorological Organization, becoming the first Indian to win this prize. He currently serves as a meteorologist and scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune.
