Deepak Chopra Biography

Deepak Chopra is an Indian-American authorNew Age guru and alternative medicine practitioner. He is the former Chief of Staff at the New England Memorial Hospital (NEMH). He was deeply influenced by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who prompted him to join Ayurvedic methods of treatment. He met Maharishi for the first time in 1985 who awarded Chopra the title "Dhanvantari” in 1989. Chopra is also known for Education, charity and advisory roles. Chopra has been described as "America's most prominent spokesman for Ayurveda", though he has been a target of criticisms for most of his career. Chopra coined the term quantum healing, which involves the idea of correcting health "imbalance" by quantum mechanical means. Deepak has also published many medicinal columns in many leading newspapers and magazines worldwide. He has been a friend of Michael Jackson for 20 years.

 

Chopra is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Yet throughout his career he has faced open criticisms for his treatment methods and yoga principles. He has received numerous international honours throughout his career of which Medal of the Presidency of the Italian Republic, Golden Gavel Award by Toastmasters International and 2010 Humanitarian Starlite Award are a few. He has authored many books like Creating Health, Ageless Body Timeless Mind, What Are You Hungry For?, The Way of the Wizard, The Book of Secrets and The Soul of Leadership. Majority of these books have been published from New York.

 

Chopra was born in New Delhi on October 22, 1947. His father, Krishan Chopra was a prominent Indian cardiologist. Chopra graduated from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1968 and worked for a short period in rural India. Later he became an advocate of alternative medicine who practiced mainly in US. He immigrated to US in 1970.
