Chintala Venkat Reddy hails from Secunderabad, Telangana. He was born in 1951 to Satyamma and Muthyam Reddy. He has 4 siblings. He was born into a family of farmers, and Chintala too chose the same field. Since school days he helped his father in fields, did milking and other farm chores. Though he completed matriculation, he discontinued studies and got fully involved with the tradition of farming. Unlike others he wanted to become a progressive and resourceful agriculturist. He continued with his researches and innovative farming methods and emphasised on organic farming. He received ‘model farmer’ award many times.

When Presidents of US - Bill Clinton and George W. Bush visited his farm in Hyderabad during their visits to India in 2001 and 2006 respectively, he gifted 30 kg of Thomson, Flame and Black Seedless grapes to both. Though he has experimented with different fruits and vegetables, he gained recognition through grape farming, a profession he started in the late 1970s. It was just a mere accident when he realized that the soiled water carried natural nutrients to the fields, and when he implemented this technique in his grape fields, it revolutionized grape cultivation in the country.

In 2003, he piloted his SM technique on one-acre land on paddy and wheat, and reaped double harvest. His soil management techniques created a new benchmark in Indian farming. He developed an organic grape variety called black beauty seedless. Venkat Reddy Satyam Mutyam is his organic brand, which other farmers can use if they want to follow Reddy’s techniques of farming.
