Ram Charan Teja, Tamannah, Siddharth, Rana Daggubati, Dhanush, Taapsee paannu, Kajal Aggarwal, Anushka Shetty, Prithviraj……these names may not sound familiar to you right now but we advise you to learn them up (and check them out on google.) Because these bright and shining sparks from Southern cinema are slowly and surely going to carve a niche in Bollywood.

The difference between these and other newcomers is that the aforementioned are already stars down south and command a huge mass following. Hindi producers want to penetrate the south market and it helps that a known face stars in their films. Also, the south entrants come with proven acting credentials. They know how to convincingly face the camera and give their best. Ram Charan Teja, Dhanush, Anushka shetty are filmfare award winner to boot.

The influx of good talent is always a welcome addition to the industry. Hindi films don’t just cater t the hindi belt (ther is Bhojpuri cinema for that) but  to a pan-Indian audience. Their reach goes beyond India and connects to the diaspora settled abroad. So it doesn’t make sense that the search for leading men and women be restricted to certain geographical locations to the North of the Vindhyas.

Another moot point is that southern blockbusters are increasingly being remade  in hindi. It makes better business sense to cast the actor who was part of the original as he or she is already familiar with the storyline. Bilinguals are also catching on. Case in point are films like the Zanjeer remake, starring Ram Charan Teja, which is being made in both Hindi and Telugu (the film is titled toofan in Telugu) and Baahubali, directed by Eaga fame SS Rajamoulli and starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati and Anushka Shetty, which is being made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously.

The earlier south brigade comprising stars like Vishnuvardhan, Mammootty, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, not to mention Kamal Haasan and above all, Rajnikanth, couldn’t bridge the south-north divide primarily because their style and mannerisms were all too coloured in ghe regional hues. However, times are changing.

South stars have increasingly become more metro sexual, more global and slowly shedding their regional roots (not to mention the excess flab). So there are more chances of the young breed making it big then ever before.
