How old are you is a women centred film which shows the usual limits faced by women within their society and family. Manju plays the role of the wife of Kunchacko Boban and a 13 year old school girl. The film shows the ordinary life of a woman, both in her office and at home. Typically, like any other government worker, she too shows laziness in doing her work. Kunchacko plays the role of a usual husband who gets jealous at his wife’s growth.

The film starts with an interviewer asking Nirupama Rajeev – “How old are you” and she replying “I’m just 36”. She was in need of this job as she wants to go Ireland with her husband. She was denied the job because she was overage. The film continues with her friend informing her about the office rumours that she had lost the job because she was over 40. Manju is a typical woman with sugar, cholesterol, and BP. She tries to play Tennis at her daughter’s School parents meeting and faints due to high BP.

Manju was invited by the president of India to have breakfast with him. Her daughter asked a question to him when there was a meeting with him in her school and that question did impress him. That was the reason why Manju was invited.

Manju’s daughter was annoyed with her mother. She was bullied in school as her mother fainted during the game. Her father, Kunchacko agrees to take his daughter to Ireland.

Manju was very much worried of this decision as she doesn’t have another world other than her husband and her daughter. But they didn’t give an ear to her opinions.

The second half of the film turns Manju’s life when she meets her college friend (Kaniha) and realizes how pathetic her life had become. Her friend gives her the courage to get back to her bold life. And she proves herself as a bold woman at the end of the story.

Altogether, this film showed the usual problems faced by women in their society. Manju has shown the women world how to emerge out from those difficulties like a Phoenix bird, and achieve one’s dreams.
