Highly Civilized Indus Valley People

There are a lot of things for which our country India can really feel proud of. India is the cradle of the oldest and biggest civilization of world – Indus valley civilization. Till the early decades of 20th century India was believed to be the land of uncivilized superstitious people who gave much preference to castes and creeds. But with the excavation of Indus valley civilization in the premises of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro brought a lot of respect to Indians and many historians and archeologists came to India in search of the remains of the people and their culture who made an urban world in the valleys and banks of Indus, 3000 years ago.

What makes Indus valley people highly civilized?

If we go through the reports produced by historians and archeologists about their findings, we can find that they were highly modern people. Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro were the best examples of urban civilization and people led a high status city life in those ancient eras, millennium before Christ was born on earth. These two cities were densely populated and their engineering skills within their limitations make us wonder a lot!

It’s hard to imagine that everything was well planned in those days with well set plots of houses, lanes and streets. How could they able to build 2 storey building without cement and rooms 25 or 35? Remains of such constructions were found during 1921, 3000 years after they were constructed. Looks like a fairy tale. They even burnt clay bricks before they were used for constructions and had drainage at each and every home of their town.

Everyone thinks that people of today are ultra modern. But that’s not the case. Inhabitants of Indus valley also exhibited such interests a lot and gave a lot of preference to gold, silver and brass ornaments. Tying hair and decorating them with hair clips was a fashion among both men and women.

They decorated every piece of accessory they had and such piece of art can be seen in their pottery and similar art pieces. They cultivated their own food and used weapons just as sport. Absence of iron weapons is the solid proof that they were culturally well behaved people and loved peace making a lot.

Yes, in many matters they were civilized and well cultured people who were hard working and art loving. So, in true sense Indus valley people gives us a lot of things and a hereditary culture to follow.
