Hatha Yoga

Hatha-yoga is a discipline whose aim is to ensure perfect health by physical and mental purification through the control of mind and body. It allows man to reach his full potential, an objective which may only be achieved if there is balance and harmony between the body and mind. The power of concentration is the greatest strength to awaken the mind and animate the body. When properly directed, it illuminates the fact for us and brings the desired results.

There is no limit to the power of the human mind. The more concentrated it is the more power is brought to bear on one point.

The powers of the mind are like rays of light dissipated; when they are concentrated they illumine. According to ancient Sanskrit texts, Ha means ‘sun’ that is positive energy, and Tha the moon that is the negative energy; the word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root Yuj  meaning to link, join or unite; it also signifies a yolk.

Hatha-yoga is composed of three inseparable factors: control of the mind; Pranayama(control and regulation of breath); Assans(bodily postures).

These three factors are so closely linked that one without the others loses its value. It has been observed that we often live only one aspect of our lives, and remain ignorant of the others. A man with a brilliant mind may appear quite remarkable, even if it is housed in a sick, stunted body, while a magnificently developed body may often contain a feeble intelligence; this situation is unable to last long, and breaks down in the end due to imbalance.

To live harmoniously, the body and mind should be developed in a balanced way, through Pranayama and the Assans. Provided the Assans are performed in collaboration with the effect will be immediate. A salutary feeling will course through the body. The power of concentrated thought is so great, that once we know how to direct it to each part of the body, it will help us to animate and revitalize the whole organism, whose functions all may be brought under the control of the consciousness.

The main object of Pranayama is to acquire mastery of the vital forces acting within the body. It also helps to ensure the arousal and liberation of the latent psychic energy in the oraganism.
