Everyone thought that Asin Thottumkal would enter the field of medicine just like her mother. Her mother was a popular surgeon and her father a businessman but this girl showed interest in literature and won Bachelor’s degree in English literature. She was casted in the Malahyalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka for the first time in a supporting role and proceeded to complete more than a dozen blockbusters. She was also nominated to the Filmfare award once. She is best suited in the female lead roles in the action comedies and action thrillers. She became famous in Bollywood also through her film Ready.

She was able to win the Filmfare Award for the Best Actress in Tamil for the film Gajini. She also received praise for her role in the film Pokkiri. She acted in the film Dasavatharam with Kamal Haasan and this is one of her best films in Tamil. She was preferred by the film directors due to her photogenic face. She could match any photo shoot from any angle.

She is not only an actor but also a social worker. She helps the education of the poor and down trodden people. She works for the Sri Lankan people affected due to war. She is funding an orphan girl of Kerala for continuing her education. She has acted in films of many languages such as Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam. She could easily call her friends to say that she was not in a position to come as it was raining heavily. But she did not do so. She risked the rain and still hired public transport and reached the place in time. She did not want to postpone the visit. This is one of her great qualities that took her to heights in the film industry.

She has become popular both in India and abroad. Wherever she goes people go after her to take photographs with her and to get her autograph. She becomes the center of attraction of the place. Her native is Malabar region of Kerala and hence she is fondly called as Malabar Azhagi which means beauty queen of Malabar. She is expected to pair with Rajnikanth in the upcoming movie Kochadaiyan to be directed by Soundarya, the daughter of Rajnikanth which will be the first three dimensional movie to be filmed using high technology. She too has expressed her wish for the same.
