A Few Interesting Facts About Signature

 

Signature – the unique fingerprint of a person carries along with it, a few interesting facts too. It is used as proof for any document or transactions keeping in mind the fact that, it’s not at all easy to reproduce exactly the same signature by another one later. Everyone should try to make a distinct, different, beautiful and attractive sign that can never be imitated easily. Actually, signature is something that a person writes in his own handwriting and obviously, no two signatures will match. Very often the person hides some unique identification marks in his signature, not easily identifiable. Signature can be done in any language, with or without underline and dots. Many people use symbols and decorative pictures instead of alphabets to do their signature. In many countries dummies are hired or seals are made if an officer needs to sign hundreds of less significant documents a day.

 

Now let me tell you when the collection of signatures began as a hobby. It happened in 1826 July 4 in America. Within hours the announcement of 50th Independence Day celebrations, former presidents of USA, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, who signed the document passed away. It induced government and people to collect signatures and letters of celebrities and important personalities. Very soon, it became a hobby of people belonging to different countries.

Now selling signatures have become a business in America and many organizations earn crores through such transactions. The signature that got the highest price was of Shakespeare’s – 20 lakh dollars. Signature of John of Arc was sold for 15 lakh dollars and Button gwinnett’s signature got 2 lakh dollars.

 

Adolf Hitler’s autobiography – Mein Kampf along with his signature was sold in August 2009 for 21000 pounds (16 lakh rupees) in an auction. In the same auction, Hitler’s signature with his signature was sold for 12,300 pounds. Signature of Julius Ceaser, Emperor of Rome was sold for 1.80 crore rupees, half centuries back.

 

Old and new signatures  

 

Some frauds may do duplicate signature to steal money from one’s bank account. So, only if small differences are there if compared with original one, banks reject such cheques. As years pass by, slight variations may occur in our signature and if it happens so, we should inform the bank with a copy of new signature. If so, only the new signature becomes valid. Also, if you want to change your signature, you should publish your new signature in gusset.
