Vinitha (singer) Biography

Vinitha is a playback singer from Kerala associated with Malayalam film industry. She has also done playback singing in other south Indian languages. She is also a Carnatic and Hindustani vocalist. As of now she has sung in about 100 feature films, and owns a handful of hit songs to her credit. 'Kannadi koottile' of Dileep-starrer Calcutta News gave her the first break to Mollywood, and since then she has sung a few memorable songs. Her sweet voice in 'Kannadi koottile' aside her favourite singer Chithra was well noticed. She is a prominent face in live music shows for over a decade now, though she is not familiar to Malayalis as a playback singer. She also sings songs for TV serials, and her son Aswath has sung one song for a Malayalam movie.

 

She studied at Chittoor Government College, where music was her optional subject. She used to sing Chithra's ‘Palappoove' of Njan Gandharvan. For the same reason she was nicknamed Palappoovu by her college mates. She used to sing many hit songs of Chithra such as 'Pularkala sundara' from Oru May Masa Pularayil at various shows. Director Blessy and the film's Bengali composer, Debjyoti Mishra were looking for a voice in Calcutta News. The song 'Kannadi koottile' sung by Chithra need a supporting voice to complement Chithra's personality. Mishra was impressed with Vinitha's Hindi diction and that’s how she bagged her first song. She sang the Hindi portion in the song.

 

She is active in stage shows, where she sings Hindi film songs sung by legendary singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Shamshad Begum and Noor Jehan, and thus she improved her Hindi diction. She sang one song for Tamil film, Sadhu Miranda starring Kavya Madhavan followed by Panthayam and Ananda Thandavam.
